3 tips for the perfect
BBQ meal
A barbecue is a practical tool that will definitely make your daily routine easier.
The best way to ensure your BBQ recipes are a success is to keep it simple. In addition to saving time, you'll be able to enjoy all sorts of low-cost, delicious meals. Here are a few tips for getting the most out of your grill.
1) the "papillote" method at the bbq
Recommended for: vegetables, fish with delicate flesh, and marinated meats that need longer to cook.
Cooking en papillote is a delicious way of preparing fish, vegetables, and marinated meats. You can even grill everything at once if you're short on time. For instance, you can make a vegetable papillote on the BBQ. Combine sliced vegetables and pieces of sausage in the same "papillote". Use aluminum foil to create a pouch that is big enough for whatever you want to put in it. Then drizzle some olive oil on the ingredients and add the seasoning of your choice (paprika, Mediterranean spices, cumin...). Seal the pouch shut and grill on medium until the vegetables become tender and the meat is cooked to your liking.
Sliced vegetables that are delicious cooked en papillote:
- Onions
- Potatoes
- Sweet potatoes
- Bell peppers
- Mushrooms
- Asparagus
2) Direct heat grilling for meals that taste just like at the restaurant
Recommended for: steaks, chicken breasts, pork ribs, and brochettes.
Depending on what you want to cook, direct heat grilling is a proven, efficient technique. In fact, it's perfect for meats or for searing certain kinds of fish before finishing them en papillote. Simply oil your grill grates before you get cooking to prevent the food from sticking. You might also want to clean your grill grates to ensure they don't alter the taste of your food.
Practical tip: to thoroughly clean the grill grates after scraping them, we recommend rubbing half an onion over the grates while they're hot. After you cook your meal, use the second half and rub the grates again. But use tongs so you don't burn yourself!
3) Indirect heat grilling for a slower cook
Recommended for: whole chickens, larger cuts of meat, vegetables, cheese.
Foods such as larger cuts of meat often need more time to cook at a lower temperature. This is when you should use the indirect heat grilling technique. It will prevent the food from charring before the inside cooks. All you need to do is turn on the burners on one side and place the food on the cooler side of the grill. A simple cooking technique when you have a gas grill with more than two burners!

A barbecue is a great tool to help you save time on busy weeknights! You'll be surprised at the variety of bbq meals you can prepare.
